Prender-si cura is the name of the artistic research and production residency programme devised and curated by Ilaria Mancia, held in the spaces of La Pelanda at the Mattatoio. A group of artists are invited to develop their research, ranging from dance and theatrical performance to visual art, music and video.
Prender-si cura asks itself questions regarding the very concept of artistic residency, seeking to expand its methods and its potential.
Prender-si cura tells its story through a diary, a testimonial, a look at the research and work process consisting in dialogues with the artists.
Prender-si cura 2022 is with (among others): Simone Aughterlony, Benni Bosetto, Chiara Bersani, Silvia Calderoni e Ilenia Caleo, F. De Isabella, Liryc Dela Cruz, Rä di Martino, Gabbi Cattani, MP5, Muna Mussie, Silvia Rampelli, Silvia Rosi, Alessandro Sciarroni, Himali Singh Soin and David Soin Tappeser, VEGA.
For the third year running Prender-si cura returns to the spaces of La Pelanda, welcoming a new group of artists who will be developing their research in the course of a period in residence, and in some cases carrying on down pathways embarked on in the previous edition.
Prender-si cura is a project devised to support the moment of research and experimentation so crucial to all artistic creation, and to coordinate it in its various aspects ranging from organisation to reflection and, as the title suggests, care.
Exchange and dialogue will still be a foundational part of the project. In previous editions, supporting work took the shape of a dramaturgical accompaniment which, at different paces and degrees of intensity, entered into the research of the artists in residence.
This work will continue, developing collaboration with the Short Theatre festival embarked on in past years, spawning Sponda, a space for the producting of thought and investigation into dramaturgical writing in the performing arts. A space-time of dialogue to delineate a landscape of dramaturgical practice capable of providing a prop to pathways of research and production.
The planned residencies design a network of collaborations and co-productions with other cultural institutions to trigger synergies at the national and international level with, among others, the Museo MAMbo in Bologna, the Centrale Fies production centre in Dro, the Biennale Gherdëina and the Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, as well as with the Teatro di Roma and the “Buffalo” retrospective.
Networking with entities and institutions at the international, national and local levels is a crucial part of the curatorial thought and practice developed in recent years in the various activities of La Pelanda in a context of productive ecology, exchange and concrete support for the pathways of the artists involved.
Just as last year some of the work created and produced in the residency became part of the Mattatoio’s summer schedule in the re-creatures project, so in this edition of Prender-si cura too we want to make room for public openings in order to ensure that the moment in which an artistic work encounters a curatorial space and thought, it also represents a moment of verification and of interaction with the public.
And finally, this year will also see the continuation of Prender-si cura’s diary, a narrative curated by Paola Granato which can be consulted on line, and which becomes at once an archive and an outsider’s gaze, a record of conservations and a cue for reflections on artistic practice and thought, witness and interlocutor in a research process.
