This is the portrait of a woman who could be you, someone else than you, or who may not exist. A daring and stubborn journey with masterful twists and turns. Developed in 2018 by Benjamin Kahn, (premiere in 2019) for and with Cherish Menzo, Sorry, but I Feel Slightly Disidentified… strikes at the ills that weaken our societies: prejudices about race and gender, social status and cultures.
Benjamin Kahn is a dancer and choreographer. He worked with choreographers such as Philippe Saire, Benjamin Vandewalles, Nicole Beutler, Ben Riepe, Frédéric Flamand, Maud Le Pladec, Egle Budvytyte, and Alessandro Sciaronni. He considers dance and choreography as powerful political tools and is particularly interested in the construction and deconstruction of the way we look at individual and collec- tive bodies. Kahn is currently finalising his new creation Bless the sound that saves a Which like Me - Cris(s)... a new solo for and performed by Sati Veyrunes with comositions by Yamila Rio Manzanares. This project is a part of a series of portraits initiated in 2019 with the work "Sorry But, I feel Slightly Disidentified...".
Cherish Menzo (1988, Netherlands), is a Dutch performer and artist of Surinamese descent. Focus of her artistic research is the different interactions and possibilities between the audience and the performer. Since 2018 Menzo has been performing in the solo piece Sorry But I Feel Slightly Disidentified... choreographed by Benjamin Khan. In 2019 he won the Amsterdam Fringe Award and International Bursary Award with the solo performance JEZEBEL. This year she presented her new performance DARKMATTER at Kunstenfestivaldesarts.
