The theatre of objects comes into being where things refuse to stay lifeless and it takes shape in order to explore their other potential, unexpected and extraordinary lives. Recounting with objects as a theatrical practice allows us to overturn our viewpoint on reality, training our gaze to push on into unexplored but possible territory where a pile of bricks does not make a house but a battle, where two different shoes dance the tango and fall in love, or where a team of adhesive tapes successfully operates on an injured letter. The workshop is a moment of encounter between children and the theatre of objects, allowing the latter to make use of children’s extraordinary creative ability and thus to find themselves, with the children, in constantly changing places.
Beatrice Baruffini trained as an actress and director at the Teatro delle Briciole in Parma, which produces many of her creations for children and for the younger generation (Il viaggio, Era ieri, Ok robot, Wow e Capogiro). In 2013 she won a special mention at the Premio Scenario with her performance entitled W (prova di resistenza), where she used the language of the theatre of objects for the very first time. For years she has been conducting dramaturgical research with children for an adult audience, in an effort to entrust the theatre with children’s outlook on the world. She lectures in the theatre of objects at the Animateria’s higher theatrical specialisation course of figure theatre techniques. She is a member of the Micro Macro association (joint art director, Insolito Festival 2021) for which she has devised numerous artistic and community art projects.
