Alessandro Sciarroni returns to the Mattatoio for an intensive seminar on the theory and practice of performance art.
Starting by viewing the Artist’s repertoire, students will be able to review the playwriting, the conceptual and iconological pathway of his creations and to experiment with some of these practices on their own bodies. The performance practices proposed will take their cue from a study of the "TURNING" project and will pivot on learning techniques allowing the performer’s body to rotate on its axis for an indefinite period of time. The theoretical pathway will also pivot on a comparison of certain significant experiences of Body Art and of the History of Photography in the last century and the evolution of contemporary live shows.
Alessandro Sciarroni is an Italian artist active in the sphere of Performing Arts with several years training in the field of visual arts and theatrical research to his credit. His work is presented at contemporary theatre and dance festivals, museums and art galleries, and in unconventional spaces throughout Europe, North and South America, the Middle East and Asia.
He involves artists from different disciplines in his creations, embracing techniques and practices based on dance and on other disciplines such as the circus and sport. His work endeavours to reveal the obsessions, the fears and the fragility of the performance act through the repetition of a practice taken right up to the outer limits of a performer’s physical resistance, in search of a different temporal dimension and of an empathetic relationship between the spectator and the performer. His various awards include a Golden Lion for his career in dancing in 2019.
