IILA – International Italian Latin-American Organization – commemorates the 10th year of the IILA-FOTOGRAFIA Prize, with an exhibition of projects selected in the past editions, and of works on the city of Rome, produced by Prize winners in the course of their residency in Rome.
IILA-FOTOGRAFIA Prize is a yearly international prize launched by IILA in 2008, within the framework of FOTOGRAFIA – Festival Internazionale di Roma, with the purpose of promoting emerging Latin-American photography, while offering opportunities for international collaborations and fostering a new vision of Italy by Latin-American photographers.
The Prize is for Latin American photographers from IILA Member states and under 35, and consists of a residency in Rome in the course of which the winner produces a photographic work on the city to be presented at the successive edition of the Prize.
Throughout its 10 editions IILA has gathered testimonies of the 2.500 Latin-American participating photographers, that have offered an unprecedented and sharp viewpoint on contemporary Latin America, the city of Rome, and other inner spaces or locations. The ensuing photographic narration will be proposed to the audience in a manner that will guide them throughout the various editions of the Prize.
Prize winners from 2008 to 2017 that will be displayed in MATTATOIO are: Geovanny Verdezoto (Ecuador); José Castrellón (Panama); Pablo López Luz (Mexico); Alejandro Nicolás Sanín (Colombia); Alejandro Cartagena (Dominican Republic); José Arispe (Bolivia); Rodrigo Illescas (Argentina); Luis Carlos Tovar (Colombia); Federico Estol (Uruguay); Leticia Bernaus (Argentina).
They will be joined by the photographers selected for the 2017 edition, dedicated to the theme “Diaries”: Dana Balajovsky (Argentina) – Mention of Honor; Sol Kutner (Argentina/Uruguay); Fernando Julián (Argentina); Manuel Seoane (Bolivia). The exhibition will also feature a showreel of all the works selected and shown in the 10 editions.
A catalogue of the exhibition produced in collaboration with RUFA - Rome University of Fine Art will be available.
