From 18 to 27 March the Pelanda will be hosting Pas de Deux by artist Roberto Fassone, choreography in the shape of a video installation produced by Lo schermo dell’arte in the context of the “Artists’ Film Italia Recovery Fund” project and co-produced by the Azienda Speciale PalaExpo. The work was created, in part, during Mattatoio’s Prender-si Cura 2021 artistic research and production residency programme.
During his residency at the Pelanda, Roberto Fassone chose Teatro 1, a black box with stalls; that is where he edited the two-channel Pas de Deux video and that is where he is presenting it to audiences, bringing together two screens to dialogue and, more in the guise of a choreographer than a director, handling the moving images as though they were dance steps, a dance for two.
Pas De Deux is a surreal choreography for two videos. The work shows the progress of a psychedelic trip in four non-linear chapters inspired by Un Chien Andalou (1929, Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalì). A fragmentary collection of ideas takes the spectator on a singular journey: an attempt to escape from lockdowns and fears through imagination, dreams and psychedelic substances. Prepare to meet upside-down forests, poems by Yoko Ono, colourful tennis matches, impossible words, breathing cactuses, fierce kids, extremely short documentaries, post-Internet anthologies, horses, vampires and crystals.
Don’t get too attached to the images; relax and enjoy the flow as it rolls by.
