O my lineage, sail swollen with glory flapping in the sun,
the wind drops and you sink:
You were nothing but wind.
(The Trojan Women by J.P. Sartre)
After lengthy research for the construction of Everything Burns, we shift our focus to the figure of Hecuba with a scenic performance gesture that moves away from the original theatricality of the project. Silvia Calderoni personifies this warlike woman, interpreting her despair and her anger. Here, also through Euripides’ Hecuba – where Polymestor foresees that she will turn into a “black bitch with eyes of fire” – we enter the post-human scenarios of “a world to come” where the thing that echoes primarily is the barking of Hecuba “which is in reality an attempt at another language, the ‘lesser language’ of which Deleuze and Guattari speak in their book on Kafka, in other words a language that comes after power and violence, a language that no longer tells the world how it has to be but that accompanies the world that there is, following it and relieving it (…) it is the mysterious language that will speak to mankind after everything has burnt.
A down-to-earth language, neither human nor yet inhuman, dusty and humble.
Now there are only ashes, and bodies. But the terrain is clear.
Something can begin.”
(Felice Cimatti, from the review of Everything Burns)
