Brutal Casual Magazine is a live set with ebm, industrial, synthpunk and noise influences combined with real time photography, with a
camera used as a music instrument. The whole set is caught in real time, with the aim of building up a magazine of slogans, pictures and sound, through the random self-documentation process of the camera. The fanzine will be based on materials taken from
various gigs, but also from everyday life experiences: walking down a street, happenings after a gig, or in a kitchen, everywhere.
The fanzine will include contributions of friends and artists that are willing to add elements to the “brutal casual” concept, too.
It's a surrealistic way to claim occult subcultures through various disciplines (sound, photography and body performance).
Brutal Casual Magazine is the live project of photographer and visual artist Jacopo Benassi, and dj, producer and post punk musician Lady Maru.
Jacopo Benassi is an artist - to call him photographer is not enough for identifying him: he has been active in organizing events, building and designing furnitures, producing records and fanzines, performing live, and he has founded an art space for concerts. The world he has created in all his expressions is recognizable and comprehensible for everybody.
His work doesn’t seem to be a research, his honesty doesn’t act as a mirror, even if extreme. His aim is not to like, and he has no interest in transmitting emotions, for there is no doubts in his actions.
As a photograph he works very fast and he has an incredible skill in “the inconclusion”, so it’s not possible that his images tell lies.
Lady Maru started producing music in 1994 with an electric guitar, some toy percussions and a Tascam 4 track recorder. She becomes quickly active as a noise guitarist and casio player for post-punk and no wave bands.
Her dj career started in 2003 at Metaverso, a small roman "cult" club, and at underground raves and parties, trying to combine two influences: post-punk and techno. Her actual sound as a producer and as a dj is mostly based on acidtechno with industrial and ebm influences.
She is now resident for Gegen Berlin and she owns the label for acid tunes “Acid boiler coalition”.
After having been part of the residency program of artistic research and production “Prender-si cura”, Brutal Casual Magazine arrives on stage for re-creatures.
Brutal Casual is the person that goes out in slippers and pajamas and gets caught just while moving the car for a better parking spot.
