Invernomuto presents two chapters in the listening sessions series entitled Black Med: Black Med, Chapter IV presented in preview form at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019 and Black Med, Chapter VII commissioned by the 58th October Salon, Belgrade Biennale 2021. Both chapters are being presented in Rome for the first time on this occasion.

The Mediterranean Sea has always been a fluid area of exchange, of cultural entanglement, of the transfer of knowledge and goods, but also the backdrop of clashes for economic supremacy and, today more than ever before, a place and symbol of hope and of danger for migrating mankind

Following the theory of scholar Alessandra Di Maio on theblack Mediterranean” which both binds and separates Europe and Africa, Black Med sets out to intercept the trajectories that sounds trace across this protean area. Divided into several chapters, the Black Med listening sessions are based on a DJ set supported by a series of slide projections containing theoretical texts and behind-the-scenes material referring to pieces of music grouped by elegiac theme. The sessions explore various pathways of sound movement, touching on such issues as the alternative uses of technology, migrations, suburbs and inter-species communication.

Black Med, Chapter IV expands research on the Mediterranean, including a diversion into the Persian Gulf; Black Med, Chapter VII, on the other hand, focuses on the Balkan region, its stories and its militarised borders, in order to explore the multiple sound directions traced in the Adriatic.

Invernomuto is the name of the artistic personality spawned in 2003 by Simone Bertuzzi (Piacenza, 1983) and Simone Trabucchi (Piacenza, 1982). Working on a common theoretical base, Invernomuto develops different outputs that take the shape of images in movement, sounds, performance actions and publishing projects, in the context of a practice defined by a use of different media as varied as it is specific. Within this process, a crucial role is played by the openly-stated unauthentic nature of the materials used, which underscores the true yet at the same time fictitious and mystifying aspect of the realities that Invernomuto explores.

In 2021 they took part in the Liverpool Biennial 2021, the 58th October Salon-Belgrade Biennial 2021 and Pompeii Commitment, Pompei. Their more recent personal performances include: The Green Parrot, Barcelona (2021); Auto Italia, London (2020); Galleria Nazionale, Rome (2019); NN Contemporary Art, Northampton (2019); and Pinksummer, Genoa (2019). Their work has been hosted by the most important cultural institutions both in Italy and abroad including: the Tate, London; Manifesta 12 Palermo; Villa Medici, Rome; Alserkal Avenue, Dubai; Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna and many more. Both artists also develop individual lines of research, with the Palm Wine and STILL musical projects.
Invernomuto is represented by Pinksummer Gallery, Genoa.
